Paintings by Leslie DeMuth

My studio and gallery space are on the main floor of a partially restored township hall that was in use for almost a century, having been erected during the presidency of Woodrow Wilson.  Located near Lake Mills, Wisconsin, this simple, wood-framed country hall hosted many graduations and local dances and served as a voting site for most of its years.

My husband, Steve Bower, and I purchased the building in 2003 and had it moved four miles from the original site to our property.  We have refurbished its fir floors, patched the old plaster, brought back the wood stove, and added a simple front porch.  We built a woodworking shop for Steve below the main floor.  We like to think that whatever changes we've made to the old Waterloo Town Hall have been in keeping with its original old country charm.

The Town Hall Studio/Gallery is now ideally situated on an old farm site overlooking an Audubon Sanctuary prairie and the Crawfish River.  This scenery is an inspiration for many of my paintings of natural scenes.  I use imagery from my flower and vegetable gardens, as well as local architecture, in my paintings.  From a sunrise over the prairie to a hummingbird sipping from the nicotiana, there is much to charm and please everywhere.
